between the two... it's kinda a tough choice... depending on what your looking for.. the x2... is moto.. so it's a solid phone all around.. it has some dev support... but not too much...

and the s2.. is a great phone.. pretty much the most popular phone there is.. and it's extremely hackable/moddable...

so if your getting it more for a phone... go with moto.. it does run great with cm7... it's extremely stable...

but if you want to do more hacking/modding... and what not.. the s2 is the better choice

I'm assuming you have a DX since you're asking about an X2. I'll take a point of view from the accessory side of this. As an X owner if you have any accessories for it such as desk top cradle, car mount, cases, etc.......these will work on an X2. No need to reinvest in accessories. If you get the S2 you'll need to buy new accessories.

    Here's my take:

X2: Will work with existing DX accessories. Also "industrial slab" design of DX, pretty durable.

S2: Takes the cake for just about everything else.

IMO, I actually prefer Moto designs. I had an X and I have an SIII now and I vastly prefer the Moto design and build quality. But the X2 is (I hate to say, as we are on the X forums) the red-headed step-child of Moto. The screen is WORSE than what comes on the OG X. The dual-core is a very early model and is pretty slow and laggy (whenever I've played with them they felt slower than my OG X ever did) there is no LTE (don't know if your carrier has it, but just a side-note at least) and I'm pretty sure its not GSM capable. Development is going... but slow. There isn't much. Not too many X2's in devs hands because people didn't want them. (Not to put down any devs here... I'm sure they do great work... its just the way its went in the lifespan of the device)

SII: Most popular smartphone the world has ever seen - GSIII will probably surpass it, but that just about covers what you need to know. It sells well for a reason. I too don't like Sammy's plasticky build, but the SII does have better firmware/radioware than the GNex did and seems to be a real solid piece of hardware, especially one which is now a generation behind. From a root/ROM standpoint, or from an engineering standpoint based on the phone itself, I would pick the SII in either case, hands down. I would actually consider an OG X and the SII a closer comparison than the X2 and the SII.

    WOW.

Told my wife I wished I could get another OG X. Just can't beat them.

I don't have many accessories for thr X. A couple extended batteries with battery doors and a gel case, and a belt pouch. Still would have to be replaced.

If my buttons weren't worn out I'd just keep using the X. I am using button savior to get by. I am a heavy user and just wonder how a Sammy will stand up to my punishment.

I've had Motorola since the brick in the early 90s, not sure I can go to a phone that feels like a $2 kids toy.

I have to say, I had no idea that the X2s display was subpar compared to the X. I guess this old X is going to be a tough act to follow.

I am on a carrier that you have to buy a carrier specific phone for. Actually they are Milestone Xs. There aren't many floating around. I am looking for one though. I wish ATT wasn't so much more expensive so I could go with their services and their up to date phones. I am looking at $75 + more per month for their service compared to Bluegrass. That's actually for 2 phones but still is a lot of money over a 2 yr period.

There isn't a phone out that is worth the extra money at this time. I am going to have problems going to a "cheap" feeling phone after so many years of Motorola.
The SIII is nice but it is certainly not built like Moto. I am not a suit and tie guy. I am in the woods or on the water from Sept till June. I need a Moto build with a SIII specs. I guess I should get something tough like a "Sonim Armor" and do the rest on a laptop. I don't think phones are going in the tough build direction. My opinion is they are going to make them as fast and sparkly as possible and honestly disposable. Built to last maybe 2 years and get another one.

With accessories not being an issue then I would definitely go with the S2.
