Apple is for people who don't want freedom or an open platform. And Apple is easier to use right off the get-go without having any idea how to use a (smart) phone. So yes, it is for simpler type people. iPhone isn't really a smartphone, anyways, IMO. Androids may "crash" mainly because we hacked OUR phones to make them OURS and probably did something either ignorant or stupid. But we are able to fix it.
Google has Iris (siri backwards). And Iris sounds cooler anyways. I have Iris on mine and it is pretty entertaining. The dev's are working on making it better. When they first landed the app in the Android Market, it was written and done (the alpha version. Not even beta then) in 8 hour! Try doing that with your criPhones! (An app like that in 8 hours, I think, is impossible on iOS )
