Should I Buy a XOOM or a gTablet?

All, I was just about to buy a Xoom from Sams Club at 530$ when someone sent me a link to this Viewsonic Gtablet Dual Core 10" tablet(279$).http://androidcommunity.com/viewsoni...only-20110323/ (running the 3.0HC Rom of course..... I am looking for advise on this purchase like "Is the Xoom worth spending twice as much?" Thanks in advance, -AT PS I only want to use in Wifi.

I have played with a few tablets, but all in all, the Xoom was the most fun to play with, I don't have one, yet, but working on it

And the Xoom has Honeycomb 3.0, which IMO is far superior to Android 2.2 when it comes to tablets....

Agreed that the Xoom is superior but price is my biggest concern.... Any thoughts on the Nook Color running 3.0Rom? Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

Everyone = ME haha lamo, anyways, yeah, the price would be the biggest thing here, that is a great price for a tablet. I have not heard anything (good nor bad) about the nook color, so cant say. If you can wait to save a little more money, Xoom, and maybe, with the rumors of them shutting down production of the dual core Xoom to make the Quad Core Xoom, prices might go down soon, not sure when though....

I got in on the Woot deal and bought it just to hack the snot out of it, as its very hacker friendly, and has the same dual core chip and gpu as the Xoom, with Quadrant scores in the 22-2300's with customRoms. If I had the extra $600 lying around would I get a Xoom? Sure, but the price was right on this one and it hasn't dissappointed with a few tweaks to it...

The XOOM is Google's current flagship device. It will receive alot of love from Google. You can just as easily hack them both but the screen is better on the XOOM and it natively runs honeycomb.

I've got a Nook Color and I love it...3.0 is still a preview build, and while it's a cool port, we're still waiting on Honeycomb AOSP code to drop before it is fully functional. It looks like its the same for the gtablet, still a preview build. Right now, CM7 is the best/most stable build on the Nook Color IMO. CM7 is awesome and it should only get better once we get a full Honeycomb build. The NC is a great size at 7 inches, has a beautiful screen, and is unlocked, so you can run whatever you want on it...custom kernels, Ubuntu, etc. Also, the dev community is cranking out stuff for the NC all the time, so it's a good time to own a Nook Color. As MIR said, I bought it just to hack it up.

From what I've read, the main difference between the NC and the G tablet is size. The NC at 7 inches is more a 1 hand tablet, whereas a 10 inch is a two handed tablet. It's portability vs. the bigger screen...depends what you need.

I was in the same boat as you guys...I couldn't see spending the money for a Xoom when I have a DX and a laptop already, though the Xoom is an awesome device and I can see why so many DXer's would jump on it. Love my NC though! It'll handle whatever I throw at it...

After having a gtablet for about a week I can safely say if you want to save alot of money and still get an awesome device, go with the gtab and put VEGAn Rom on it. It has the same tegra 2 processor as the xoom which is a huge bonus and it already has a great base of devs working on it all the time. At under 300 bucks you cannot go wrong with the gtab.

I have a gtab and a Xoom. Picked up the gtab during the woot deal for $285 shipped. Nothing wrong with the gtab at all. I'm running the vegan ROM and it is stable and smooth. Has some nice function features built in to the ROM that I wasn't expecting. Ran a 2236 Quadrant which was a good 200 over the Xoom. And that is with half the RAM of the Xoom. Also smokes the Xoom in FPS on the graphics tests. The only downside to the gtab is the viewing angle is not as good as the Xoom and there is no Honeycomb. Other than that it is a great tablet at an excellent price. And plenty of developers working with it too.


Oh and that link you posted was a one day woot deal. But compusa and tigerdirect have it on sale for $299 this week. Viewsonic gTablet 10.1
