Ibm 370 assembler, PL1, vb, c#. For version control we use a source control system. Team Foundation server. Probably some open source options for source control to be found. And yes I am old. So old I can't stand the taste of Red Bull. Caffeine the way nature intended...in coffee

I go away for a couple of days and it looks like the landscape has changed. How'd the bar search turn out?

    Prosperous..
Glad to have you back. Would like to talk to you about xml parsers sometime.

Did you guys know that the early computer engineer clubs (I think in harvard) often got complaints for depleteling the schools coffee and sugar supply, and they constantly requested more funding just for that. Lol.

Old fart here. Started on punch cards on an IBM 360. When the 370 came out we thought nothing could beat it. I've studied assemblier, Pascal, Fortran, RPG1/2, Cobol, and Basic. It doesn't seem like long ago, but dang, these as dinosaurs. Nobody uses them anymore.

Sure we do. I got to write an exit in H assembler awhile back, and the county I work for still has an IBM mainframe and CICS, and they're still maintaining 20+ year old COBOL. They even have DYL260 in production. Long live us antiques

Yup I enjoy ASP and PHP too. C# is like C++ but a little better. Its part of the .net package. But I like VB.NET even though it can be limiting. I enjoy writing vbscripts too.

I have a question for you guys? How do you remember syntax? Are you the kinda person that buys a book? Do you google everything, do you built in language libraries in your scripting program? Also what program do you typically script in. I use notepad++, am I being lame?

Where do you guys see the future of programming? Will we have to write long scripts, or will everything be practically english?

Are you a stressed out programmer....I know, debugging just kills me to core. How do you deal? Am I missing something. Do I need a massage chair or a punching bag? It drives me mad. Also how do you manage subversions? Do you just save as a million times, or you have some automatic system set up.

    Knowledge please!

I mostly do scripting, but I can follow C syntax well. LSL actually looks a good bit like C, for a scripting language. I have a good head for C syntax though I don't know the language. I used to program BASIC back on the C-64. On Windows, I tend to use SciTE. I'm a vi kind of person on *nix. On windows I tend not to manage subversions, though if I do, it's usually just saving as a new file. On FreeBSD, I'll use RCS as it's part of the base system though I've been meaning to go migrate to something newer.

What's LSL? Also side note, I want to get better with programming GUI's, should I be messing with VB more or should I be looking at something else?
