Folks - having a problem getting into CWM recovery these days. Can't seem to get in via Rom Manager reboot, the Power menu option or the method by which you press down volume when you see the blue LED flash after powering up the DX. This is somewhat frustrating as the phone tries to reboot into recovery but I just get the red M logo and that's it...
I think something may be screwed up with busybox as I tried putting re-installing busybox on the phone in order to prep for putting on Pimp My Rom but I suppose I messed something up there....
Gather CWM recovery uses busybox as well - so maybe that's where it's hung up.
Anyway - some suggestions as to try and remedy this situation would be appreciated...
I've already tried some of the options in rom manager as well as trying to reflash via the D2Bootstrap APK...no dice...
CWM doesn't use busybox (at least the recovery piece) but the scripts to get you there do. Here's a couple things to try:
1) Use something like root explorer and delete the recovery folder from /preinstall. Then go into bootmenu and fixes. Run the Fix Recovery option.
2) Go back through root explorer to /preinstall. Do you now have the recovery folder again? It should have 3 recovery zip files and an update-binary file (make sure none of the sizes are 0). If not, create the recovery folder. Now go to /system/bootmenu/recovery and copy all the files there (except the hijack-boot.zip file) to /preinstall/recovery.
3) Use root explorer or terminal and go to /data. If it isn't already there, create a file called ".recovery" (it has to have the "." at the beginning). Now reboot. Don't go into bootmenu and you should boot into recovery.
That should manually get you through everything the scripts do for you. If you can get back to cwr, do a dirty flash of the Rom (don't wipe anything) and you should be back up again. You'll have to redo anything you added (like PMR), but all your apps and settings will be saved.
Let me know if that still doesn't work for you.

I didn't find an easy fix for it unfortunately. I was already planning to pull all the touch and graphics code out and redo it (the aroma style is SOO much nicer) and replace / redo it (with the aroma styled graphics). It's taking a little longer than I hoped, but it's coming along pretty well. I'm going ahead and cleaning up a lot of code that isn't used as well from the original merges from Defy's bootmenu. It may not significantly increase the speed or decrease the binary size (it'll actually increase some due to the graphics code), but it will be easier to maintain.
I also have a question out to the dev that wrote the aroma installer. Hopefully it'll be an easy answer. If so, I'll be able to include setting up the overclocking and vsels during the installer as well. The update won't be held up for this if it isn't easy. Just an added touch if it is.
It will probably be another week before it's finished. I know everybody is anxiously waiting and I certainly appreciate the enthusiasm.

anticipation of this rom is what keeping me from upgrading my phone. i'm eligible for the new 2 year upgrade but also don't want to be forced into selecting one of their tiered data plans and lose unlimited data. has anyone tried to just activate a 4g phone in place of the DX without renewing the Verizon subscription? do you get to keep the unlimited data?

As long as you don't buy it as part of an "upgrade" and renew your contract. It's when you renew your contract as part of the terms of an upgrade the you lose your unlimited data.
I recently bought a Nexus outside of Verizon upgrade program (meaning I bought it from someone, not from Verizon) and activated it, kept my unlimited data, and now have a 4G phone. Nexus has MiUi too, btw!
