So if the cause is this hijack file, could us messed up ones without a nandroid mount the system as R/W and just replace the hijack file with a good copy (you provide) and reboot?

That's exactly the short term fix (I'll still have to fix the flash). Give me a minute and I'll post instructions and a good hijack file. You'll be able to get back to cwm, etc at that point.

That's my big thing. I want to get back to CWM so I can reflash WITH a system wipe (might as well do data since it's cleared anyways), since that seems to be working for people.

I updated with wiping cache/dalvik-cache before the install and wiping system/cache/dalvik-cache during the install. It's running right as rain now and has been all morning.

    Process:
    1. Download to SD Card main directory
    2. Boot to CWM Recovery
    3. Wipe Cache & Dalvik-Cache
    4. Install update from SD Card - select zip file
    5. Walk through the installer keeping pretty much everything default.
    6. When prompted to wipe cache/dalvik, system/cache/dalvik, or data/system/cache/dalvik - selected system/cache/dalvik
    7. I chose the complete install for the applications.
    8. I did not restore my bootmenu options choosing to reset them myself after the fact.
I'm wondering if the breakdown is in my step 6 above where some may be selecting wipe cache/dalvik and not wiping system.

Lol ya everything is working for me now. Although when I started the Setup Wizard wouldn't let me go past the "Touch the Android Screen" and alot of force close pop ups came up. So I booted to recovery with "holding power and home key" and wiped data and cache then rebooted and everything worked.

    Ok, steps to recover:

Download this hijack - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/32763084/Miui/GB/hijack - to your sdcard.

    If you have root explorer:

Remount system as read/write (rw) and copy it to /system/bin/hijack (overwrite the file that's there)
Long press the hijack file and change it to Ower - Read, Write, Execute ... Group - Read, Execute ... Other - Read, Execute (Other may read as World or something else)
Reboot and you can access bootmenu, cwm, etc (have to reboot before cwm will come up, bootmenu will fix the /preinstall issues during boot)

If you have a terminal app run these commands (assuming you have the hijack downloaded to your sdcard already):

su (you will probably be prompted to enable root ... if so, you may need to run "su" again or close the terminal and re-open it and run "su" before you are given root access)
    mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system (this remounts system as read/write)
cp -f /sdcard/hijack /system/bin/hijack (assuming you saved hijack to the root of your sdcard and not a folder)
    chmod 755 /system/bin/hijack
    reboot

If you are using adb it's basically the same thing as terminal. I wasn't able to push the hijack directly to /system/bin/hijack, but I could push it to /sdcard/hijack.

Getting root was a bit of a pain as well. When you adb in, you won't have root. You'll have to do "su", then agree to the prompt on the phone to enable root. Close adb, then redo the "adb shell" command. Now "su" again, then agree to allow root. Now it should finally give you root. From this point, run the following:

    mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system (this remounts system as read/write)
cp -f /sdcard/hijack /system/bin/hijack (assuming you saved hijack to the root of your sdcard and not a folder)
    chmod 755 /system/bin/hijack
    reboot
    nevercominhome likes this.
