Difference between the X and Milestone X ?

From what I recall the droid x is Verizon specific and that's about it. Milestone is other carriers and such

That's about it I think. Just no Verizon stuff on it. Insides are the same.

I noticed one difference. The way it's activated. Even if you flash a DX with the Milestone X (MB809) .sbf it won't let you activate the phone manually. It goes thru the DX activation. I'm wondering if that's hardwired into the Droid X (MB810).

That may be verizon's territory issue... I noticed that before the alltel/verizon merger (I was alltel) if I called 611 or 228 in a verizon territory it would give me verizon... but in alltel territory it would be alltel...

The phone may be getting activation details from the cell towers.

I have noticed that. It may now be that way here since Verizon is just about done taking over my Alltel.
