Or one can use Droid X Bootstrap -> Bootstrap Recovery -> ROM Manager -> UPdate CWM Recovery -> Droid X (2nd-init) -> Reboot into Recovery. Good
The Droid X binaries don't play nice on GB with USB Debugging enabled as mentioned. Swap it to a different binary or disable USB Debugging and should be great. (Even with the Droid X Bootstrap app - just do the bootstrap first the use a different recovery via updating with ROM Manager)
