Fix: Rooted and moved su to xbin, lost root with Froyo? Fix here.

Saw this in another thread, it came in handy for me. Originally posted on AllDroid, reposted here by someone else.

If you have /system/xbin/su and /system/app/Superuser.apk, but cannot use "Superuser" (no prompts from Superuser app, "permission denied" when you try to run "su"), just do the following:

Run "adb shell"
Run "/system/xbin/su"
Watch your screen for Superuser app to prompt for permission and click "allow"
Run "mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/system /system"
Run "cp /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su"
Run "chmod 4755 /system/bin/su"
[optional] Run "mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/system /system"

This seems to be a fairly common problem.

I think the only way to do this is to SBF and start over

OMG, this fixed my problem! Apparently in my situation, rather than moving su from bin to xbin, I copied su from bin to xbin and that caused my problems. Silly me! This worked perfectly for me and I now have root again, and on FroYo without having to revert back to SBF and reupgrading! Thanks so much! I stumbled across then as I was trying to find help on applying the SBF to try again - you saved me a system wipe, which I definitely appreciate!

Lol lucky you =p I put the su file in the wrong folder when rooting on my girlfriends so thats where i went wrong... so just need to find an app to back up her app data without needing root.... i can at least get her user app data.. no system app data... or i can wait for froyo root... she doesn't need root despritely .. so might just do that.

I'm sure some people are, but I doubt it's an insanely high priority right now like it was for 2.1. Give it some time and there will be something, I bet...

ok first what or how are u connecting your X to the computer? which mode? the only way i can connect with debugging staying on is with usb mass storage mode clicked not pc mode? any one else have this? also after adb shell next step i keep permission denied..
