Persistant problem trying to flash a new ROM
I've tried rooting/changing ROMs ever since getting my DX earlier last year and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'm really tired of SBFing and fruitless tries and time without my phone because it won't boot. I've successfully upgraded to Gingerbread and Cyanogen 7, but usually have a 1/10 chance of getting it right, the other times resulting in getting stuck on the Motorola logo without chance of recovery. I decided to try a recent MIUI ICS ROM for DX from Cyanogen because 7's DX version doesn't have a working camera, and I wanted to try ICS. I realize going from C7 might have been an issue, but even after SBFing and trying again, no luck.
From SBF via Linux CD:
Root with Zroot
Install Droid 2 Bootstrap
Bootstrap
Either boot to Recovery from app or ROM Manager
Clear Cache
Clear Data/Format
Clear Dvalick
Install Zip from SD card
Reboot
I also tried, per the ROM sharer's recommendation, to mount system, format system, then mount again and install, but that didn't work either.
Am I missing a crucial step? Help would be greatly appreciated, I'm really tired of ****ing my phone up.

if youre sbfing to .340 (im asuming because youre using z4 root) you need to take the ota to .605 first, then root with one click method.. or just sbf straight to .602, 1-click root then flash.. its failing now because you're installing gb roms over the froyo base..

Okay so you want gingerbread miui or froyo miui? Because I looks like your sbf'ing to froyo because you root with z4 so are you flashing the gingerbread rom? That would cause what you having.
Edit: ninja'd... Darn you Fnmetal!!!!! Hahah

You rooted with z4?
If so that's part of the problem... You need to be on the updated 4.5.602 version... Which is ginger...
And z4 won't work to root it

Thanks for your help, guys. I was trying to install the ICS (V4 I think?) version of MIUI for DX. I SBF to Froyo because when I looked for it, there was no one-click root for Gingerbread. I can SBF to Gingerbread easily, I just don't know how to one-click or root it swiftly. Any pointers? If I wanted to flash to an Ice-Cream Sandwich ROM, what would be requisite to do that? I figured there was a bit of missing knowledge on my part. Thanks again.

follow this link...you'll see the d3 one-click root method, and there is also a video guide in that thread as well (second section i believe) d2 bootstrap you'll need to flash it Only

Thanks for the link, successfully sbfed to Gingerbread and rooted. From here, I can only flash ROMs with a Gingerbread base?

no problem, and yes, correct, or else you'll be sbf'ing again...just make sure to read the OP for the rom, follow the instructions, verify the builds they are for and you'll be fine. Heres the link to the Rom section for GB,
