ROM and patches should be on the SD card prior to step 5.

And during the process of installing Clockwork grant Superuser permission when it asks for it.

    1. Install Droid 2 Bootstrap
    2. Install ROM Manager Lite.
    3. Open D2 Bootstrap. Hit Bootstrap Recovery. Close the app.
    4. Open ROM Manager. Select Install Latest Clockwork. Should be the top choice. When the device list pops up choose Droid X 2nd init.
    5. In ROM Manager choose Reboot Recovery. Phone will boot into Clockwork. Black screen with blue text.
    6. Once in Clockwork do a data wipe and cache wipe.
    7. Install ROM zip from SD card.
    8. Reboot
    9. Once you're booted you can boot back into recovery and flash your patches. I've never run Liberty, but on most ROMs you hold down the power button which brings up a menu where you choose Reboot->Recovery. If it doesn't then reboot through ROM Manager again to get there. Flash the patches without doing any wipes and reboot.

One thing: Once you've used Bootstrap, NEVER hit Bootstrap Recovery again or you'll be starting from scratch again.

I'm on day 4 of trying to get this thing to work. I'm about to give up on Liberty(same one posted on OP)....

I tried the above, and when installing that Liberty ROM it runs than goes about four lines to "Installation Aborted"

Anyone have any good suggestions on a ROM that actually works?!?

All the ROMs listed in the OP work perfectly fine. I tested them all on my DX running .621 prior to releasing them as the patched versions.

What is the error it is giving you specifically. Does it say something "Status 7: Installation Aborted" does it say "Signature Verification Failed" or something similar; what is it specifically telling you. That will help us figure out the source of the problem.

Also, what is the background of your recovery. Andy the Android with an exclamation or the black hat with an arrow around it? If its a black hat is the text green or blue?

I'm not sure if this was asked or cleared up somewhere in this thread, but I have a question.

In the instructions for the .621 kernel, it says to flash desired .zip and THEN flash the kernel/wifi fix. I am extremely new at all this, but aren't you supposed to have flashed the kernel before you flash a rom?

I did in that order and works for me.
    1. Kernel fix
    2. Rom
    3. Wifi fix.
In the case of second init just the rom.

    Got it!

Did all the stuff in the right order and got it to bootloop which was actually kind of a shred of hope in this grueling process. Before, I was bricking my phone over and over. Finally sbf, root, cwm, wipes, 621 fix, rom, wifi fix, reboot and... it booted up to my surprise.

    I am now running APEX!!!

Very exciting. Anyways, still working on getting everything setup and whatnot, but the moment of truth comes when I try the wireless tethering. That's really the ultimate goal of all this anyway, so here goes.

    Edit: Failed

After I successfully flashed the apex rom, and downloaded 'Wireless Tether for Root Users' it sets up fine and I can connect to it with my laptop, but it takes me to the web page that makes me sign up for the service through verizon. Is there some way around this? Should I be using a different app? While I wait for replies, I'm gunna try a couple things.

I found a guide to get wifi tethering working after rom flash. It had me use the RadioComm program and do a couple things, and download a specific app for tethering. After all that, it doesn't take my to the verizon setup page, so all is good now!
