    Rooting Gingerbread

First of all I would like to thank TBH and everyone else involved at MyDroidWorld for making the Official OTA available to the masses.

Secondly, I am kinda scared to do it and was just wondering if anyone has actually tried Gingerbreak on the OTA to see if it works?

Gingerbreak will not work. Right now only way to get root versions are to load the prerooted ones by p3 and the tbh gang

    Got a question:

Is it absolutely imperative that I use SBF to get back to stock Froyo? I already have a nandroid backup of a clean 2.3.340 Froyo install. Couldn't I simply use DX bootstrapper to load that back on, then get rid of DX and download D2 bootstrapper....then go ahead and download P3's zip's?

If you are on gb already just use the odex or deodex zips, no wipe needed if you on 588, 591, or 595. That's if you want root. You could have all sorts of problems if you are on gb and use froyo backup.

    Wulf,

I'm on Froyo, rooted, Rom'd every which way. No GB to be found. Just wanted to avoid the SBF to get back to stock Froyo....and since I did do a backup of stock Froyo before I started downloading Rom's, thought I could do it that way.

I was already on gb when I went to 596, but its best to use that backup and wipe data before installing if you don't want to sbf. Sbf is if you are on gb and want to go back to froyo or if something goes totally wrong, or if you want to take OTA.

EDIT safest bet is sbf but using backup of good froyo should be ok. I haven't tried it myself either way if sbf your good, if you use backup of froyo and don't work then sbf. Worth a shot.

Just fyi, read quite a few comments on Midwest. Lots of install failures of part 1 for people who used a nandroid stock. Probably not stock enough. Also make sure all bloat is present, accounted for, and unfrozen.

So far its been proven going from previous gb to 596 works with little risk. If you want rooted 596 maybe use the 1 2 3 588 gb install bootup, install D2 bootstrap to get to clockwork install odex or deodex 596 if coming from froyo.
