    Oh, and Happy Birthday!!

    Don't worry, I won't lol. I actually really like the new Blur and can tolerate it till root is gained. New Blur is a hella step up from old crappy slow Blur.... lol

    Thanks!

    And always remember to read, read, read, and read some more!

    For all of you who understand how these things work (and with apologies in advance for my inability to grasp this stuff)...

    I'm on rooted Froyo, no roms, nothing fancy, a bunch of bloatware frozen with Titanium. I haven't been able to screw up the courage to try flashing one of the leaks and figured I'd just wait for the OTA, but I really do like having root (even though I honestly don't take full advantage of its capabilities) and want to keep it. So I'm not planning to accept the Gingerbread OTA until the awesome X brain trust comes up with a way to root it (which inevitably they will -- I'm genuinely in awe of those folks!).

    But I've also read that there are concerns about the VZW phone gestapo being able to determine who's rooted and who isn't by which users accept the update. So I'm curious: if one accepted the OTA to keep the gestapo at bay, could one then flash the rooted GB leaks Or is that the crux of P3's warning -- that the OTA may have a new bootloader, and nothing else will work with it? Or is it that the GB leaks are designed only to work on Froyo? (As you can tell, I haven't the faintest idea how any of this works.)

    I wouldn't worry about vzw knowing that you are rooted. It's not really feasible for vzw to keep track of an individual rooting their phone. They may try to get a general idea of how many phones are rooted, but to keep a file on specific people rooted seems unlikely.

    If there isn't root, you can't flash. Once you take the ota and it gets root, there is no need to flash the leaks.

    I for one am staying on liberty for froyo. I don't see a need to upgrade...yet

    ::facepalm:: D'oh! I knew that...

    Thanks. Methinks I'll stand pat until the OTA Gingerbread is rooted.

    Unfortunately, I do not subscribe to netflix. However, I'm sure you've seen this already:

    Edit build.prop file for netflix!

    I might try this and see if my brother-in-law might hook me up with his acct password

    I did this and it works, but will it have any negative effects on my phone? Or is it basically like running windows in a different compatibility mode?

    Nope, should not have any ill effects on the phone. Not quite like running Windows in compatibility mode, it just tweaks a file that normally stopped the service from working cause it wasn't approved or something of that sort, and makes it work. Its basically tricking the app into thinking its on a different phone that the app has been signed for.

    And always remember to read, read, read, and read some more!
