Easy Way to Root Stock Gingerbread .602

I was running the pre-rooted 2 part gingerbread .596 and lost root access when I Updated to .602 (gained .13P radio). To get root back I downloaded su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed and installed from recovery. Now I have .13p radio and the update with root access no SBF needed. I'm tethering again.

Special thanks user Bstein612 @ mydroidworld forum for showing me the way.

***Please note that you have to use the Droid 2 Bootstrap (found in android market) to boot into recovery mode. This is what I used to perform the update.

Can you clarify what you mean by saying you downloaded that superuser from recovery and where did you get it?

    Thanks!

Sorry about that. I downloaded it from [APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers and flashed the ".zip" file using Droid2 Recovery. Very Easy.

Someone also posted the step by step:
Official Gingerbread update 4.5.602 (rooted and ready) or Stock. - Page 5

see post #75 - thanks tadpole!

Figured this out. You can SKIP all the sbf'g etc to get to 602.
*be sure that you are on stock .596 rooted
*grab su file from Superuser (not the binary) and save on your sdcard
*make nandroid backup in CWR - reboot
*take the official 602 update and let it install
*once it finishes rebooting and you get the install was ok message pull the battery out while droidx is still powered on
*put the battery back in and power on
*this will get you to CWR. From there install the su file and reboot.

Good to go! I just did this on my friend's droidx. Voila!! On .602 and .13p radio and ROOTED

So I did the .596 2 part install with Root AND Deodexed, will this method work for me too, or does the Deodexing f that up? I have never installed a ROM or theme for GB. I have the .12 radio if that matters. Thanks

I'm in a similar situation, 2 part .596 from TBH, deodexed. I have actually changed a few notification icons with Morph. Even if I unfreeze bloat I've frozen, I do have a feeling the OTA download would fail. I wish it could be that simple, though.

Looks like I'll have to weigh my options. I really don't have any issues with my present setup or glitches that cause me problems. It's steady and solid. That's what I need and I don't want to take a chance of losing that.

BTW...I did check yesterday for OTA update. It found it and downloaded it. I went and deleted it, though, so it would stop asking me to install.

I too am on deodexed .596. Can I just install the odexed .596 zip from the tbh app so I can take the ota? I have tried to take it, but it wont install over a deodexed framework.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Well that actually answers my question. I may try to do what you suggested tonight. IF I get to it, I will post what happens.

UPdate: Did a nandroid backup in Clockwork, went to install zip from sd, selected my Blur_Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US-Part1.zip then when installing Blur_Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US-Part2.zip, it aborted. Restored my nandroid successfully, luckily.

I suppose I should try with a wipe, I skipped that part as I thought it was worth a shot to install over my deodexed version. I will take another shot at it over the weekend. I'm sure by then there will be 10 new ways to do it lol.
