I haven't opened it (don't know how), it hasn't been dropped ever, never gotten wet. What is sbf? I am not sure how to do that and not sure about rooting. I have copied folders from the phone to my home computer, but not done anything other than the standard back up assistant thing. I am really a novice at this and this is my first phone ever. I got it for the data package as I rarely use it for voice and never for texts.

Ok couple things before we get into the sbf and factory reset territory. Have you tried going into settings - applications - manage apps -all and clearing data for your camera? Copy all your pictures you want to keep onto your computer first just to be safe.

Secondly does your camera work in safe mode? and are you using the stock camera or a downloaded app?

And finally if those two things don't help you I would say it is time to do a sbf and/or a factory reset. The sbf will make your phone like "out of the box." You can do this without wiping data but if that doesnt help you may have to go ahead and just wipe. There are instructions on how to SBF in my signature and how to videos. On your phone go to settings --> about phone and check what android version you are running. You will want to use the same SBF file as you are currently on. Most likely 2.3.4 or 2.3.5.

This is the stock camera app. I went into manage applications and cleared the data. It still starts black and when you click on the shutter part, the flash comes on and stays on. I started it up in safe mode and tried the camera with the same result.

I read the stuff on the SBF and am afraid that I will make my phone "a brick". Is this what they would do at the verizon store? Are there certain mistakes that would increase my chance of making a brick?

If you took it to a Verizon store I would assume they would just try a factory reset (which you can do yourself) . It's sounding more and more like you have a hardware issue though since you say you have never rooted or tampered with it.

It's almost impossible to brick our phone because of the locked bootloader. The worst thing that could happen would be you get stuck at the red m logo and have to do it again. The only real concern is make sure you have a fully charged battery before you try and sbf. That way in case it fails the first time you have room to try it once more...

But listen, if you don't feel comfortable with a sbf then don't. I have to ask you outright though... Do you mind losing everything on your phone and starting over? If you do I would call Verizon customer support and see what they have to say about it.

After much research I found it was software related. I used https://settings.adobe.com/flashplay...l-storage.html to clear my settings and cache. Either an app or some page I went to on the browser altered a setting and caused my camera to just have the black screen. I just let it clear them all and my camera now works after being a black screen for at least the last 6 weeks.
