How do you put large files (4 gb+) on a Micro SD card?

Hey guys, I've got a little problem.

I just got a new 32gb class 10 micro SD card for the X2. I got the card in the phone, the phone recognizes it, and everything is good. However, when I tried to upload a 10 gig movie to the SD card, I got an error saying the file is too large even though there is 31 gb free on the card.

Now, I know this problem is because the file system type on the card is FAT and FAT has a 4.0 gb file size limit. Also, I know that Microsoft's NTFS file system (which would solve my little problem because it allows larger files to be transfered) is proprietary and not supported by Android.

So my question is: how can I put large files (4.0gb and larger) on my new micro SD card? I am referring mostly to HD movies that I would like to take to class to get me through the day when things are slow.

    Thanks for any help, Dukes.

You're not going to be able to play that movie on the phone.

You can't get past the file size limit as it's a fat limitation like you mentioned.

Try shrinking them with a program like handbrake HandBrake the iPod preset should work just fine. I've used this program to shrink (720P) game recordings(Around 5-6 gigs for 4 minutes) down to about 1.5 gigs each.

    Thanks for your guy's replies.

Does this mean you can never get a file larger than 4gb on these phones?? There goes all my HD movies I have...

In "shrinking", I take that as you mean compressing??? Are you going to lose anything (i.e. quality of picture, performance, sound, etc) by shrinking it with that program?

    Thanks, Dukes.

You can also break the movie into parts. You can get legally free software for pc, etc to do this.

Due to fat size limitations nothing over 4 gigs will work..but you already knew that lol.

Since all your movies are already HD when you compress(recode and shrink) they won't lose much quality if any at all.

Edit: And if you play around with the settings you can get better results with size and quality

Yes you will lose quality but you can't really tell on the smaller screen. I have movies compressed to 2gb that look good on my 40" LCD HD TV.

As for moving files larger than 4gb, you can use Winrar to compress and split the file into multiple rar files. Then you can copy them individually and uncompress.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, the FAT file type has a 4.0gb file TRANSFER limit, but not a 4.0gb file SIZE limit? Is that correct??

If that is the case I'll just use 7zip to re-compile all the hashed up files once they're on the SD card.

    Thanks

Yes, that is what I have.

Found it here... Newegg.com - ADATA 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card with Adapter Model AUSDH32GCL10-RA1

Actually, I see you're asking about the droid x and not the x2. I thought this was an x2 support forum??
