    Thanks GoCliffGo05, I cleared data for Maps, I've tried booting into bootstrap and wiped cache and dalvik awhile back but there was no difference.

    As for my location settings, I have "Google location services", "Standalone GPS services" and "VZW location services" all checked.

    Strange... Do you have the latest version of maps installed and the latest version of eclipse? It shouldn't make much of a difference but have you tried re flashing the rom? I saw you said you cleared data for maps, how about the cache for them? You could also try clearing data on maps, uninstalling them and re-installing them.

    One more thing to check. Using a root explorer app go to etc/ and open gps.conf

    Does it look like this?

    NTP_SERVER=0.us.pool.ntp.org
    NTP_SERVER=1.us.pool.ntp.org
    NTP_SERVER=2.us.pool.ntp.org
    NTP_SERVER=3.us.pool.ntp.org
    XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
    XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
    XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

    Yeah, my gps.conf file looks the same. I did a fresh flash of 2.3 around the time it came available, definitely the latest version of Maps. When you choose "clear data" for an app it clears the cache at the same time.

    I'll probably try the reflashing route, always nice to have a fresh plate to work with

    True. I've been reading around some and it seems you aren't the only one to experience this. It's not widespread but it pops up from time to time. Nitro is currently working on a small update for this maybe he will address it. Looks like this will be the last full version though as he no longer has an x2

    Edit: After more reading and talking someone said that when their GPS was acting up they just went into Settings - Location & Security and just unchecked all three services and then rechecked them and it worked for a while. Doesn't sound like a permanent fix, but may help a little.

    I can't figure out why you say:
    2.3 eclipse nandroid
    for those quirky DX2s

    When that is a different file than the one from eclipserom.com (in fact this is not even a ZIP so it cannot even be used following your instructions)

    I am curious because 3 days after I installed eclipse (latest one posted on eclipserom.com), I tried to use data with my verison plan but I cannot get 3G or even 1X at all! I don't know if there's instructions I didn't read, I was on the latest OTA, 4.3.5. I really don't want to go back to my saved nandroid because eclipse is sooo smooth. On before this it seemed I was waiting half-minute for any little thing I tap!
    Thanks

    there are a couple of people, who have DX2's that can not flash roms, but can flash nandroids
    your data problem could be a setting error
    if you can make /receive calls look at
    menu>system settings>battery & data manager>data delivery
    check 'data enabled'
    check 'background data'

    edit: also it is a zip just add .zip to file name
    also changed link, to the updated file with .7z extension
    i updated the link in original thread, that I posted it, several months ago

    an nandroid is different from a rom, a rom is installed, a nandroid is a backup image file made in recovery
    watch the video on this site about on how to restore a nandroid
    How to video's. sbf, root, nandroid backup, and restore

    Thank you so much shadow, I see why you got the spotlight!

    The problem was in the settings. I had gone through all the settings I could think of, including that, and I feel like there's no reason I would not have noticed 'data enabled' but in fact that was not checked. I did and 3G came right up!

    I am sure glad you take time to answer things that maybe are too simple and you hit that in the right area even though I know I should have given a lot more info.

    About the compressed ROM image: I said it's not a zip because although I can uncompress it with 7zip, renaming it does not allow windows to unzip it (assumes it's not the first of multi-part zip). Then I even copied that renamed file to the SD on the droid and recovery could not install it because not proper format. I suspect it's using incompatible compression method, but I just used the other download "X2-Eclipse-v2.3.zip". As far as the nandroid, I just meant I don't want to go up to my backup I made just before I installed eclipse, so yes I mean nandroid.
