    Need help rooting, an non-rooted dx2 2.3.5

i have a dx2 with v2.3.5 and my phone is not rooted. i have looked all over this web site and only find instructions of how to root a dx2 2.3.4. I readl one thread of someone wanting to down grade to dx2 2.3.4, but their phone was already rooted when they took the update. i want to root a non-rooted dx2 2.3.5, totaly factory stock. I want to keep all my contacts, apps, pics and music. ANY help will be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem/desire. I have tried Petes, and other methods which do not work including DoomLord, which says the file system on the Droid X2 is read only for the file directories it is trying to copy into.

the only way is to SBF to 2.3.4
    [How to] Root 2.3.5/1.3.418

    edit:
I want to keep all my contacts, apps, pics and music.
backup contacts to gmail or verizon's backup assistant
turn on restore apps in settings
backup pics on pc or use photo bucket app (auto backups)
    backup music on pc
backup texts and call log with sms backup +

you may not have to lose data, when flashing SBF, only if you bootloop, then you have to wipe data
many have not had to wipe data, but backup just in case

So If I bootloop, I have to wipe all my data? (Please forgive me, I know absolutely nothing about any of this, I've been studying this stuff for 3 days)

wiping data is recommended, but many have flashed SBF, and not had to wipe
give it a couple of mins to boot first time, before you panic
and it's not a bad idea to boot into stock android recovery, just to know how, before you need to
and you can try wiping cache, this will not delete any of your data, but may prevent bootloop

data on the sd card is safe, from data wipe and SBF, but backup data on internal card

the X2 has a locked bootloader, which means it's hard to brick

downloading files, from phone is fine
rsd lite, and pete's need to run on pc

edit: when you boot to rsd support all it will say is 'starting rsd support'
also if you get into rsd support, and want back out, easiest way is battery pull

I managed to SBF 2.3.4 without wiping data, but I had to do a factory reset which means I lost my apps. Though I kind of wish I had wiped it to use a clean install. The best method is to use RSD lite to SBF to 2.3.4. Root using Pete's method. Install Rootkeeper, perform a backup and unroot the phone. Update to 2.3.5, restore the backup and off you go.
    http://depositfiles.com/files/spvcfjb4w 2.3.4 SBF - 2.3.4 SBF
Pete's Motorola Root Tools - Pete's root tools
    RSDLite5.3.1.msi - RSD lite 5.3.1 download
I have not used the SBF file from this link so I don't know if it's good. I can't remember where I got the file I used.

You can download everything with the phone, but you'll need a computer to SBF and use Pete's root tools. It's best to keep it simple and do everything on a computer, except OTA Rootkeeper is an Android app.
