[How To]Stock X2 2.2.2 Root, Recovery and update to 2.3.3

First off I take no credit for any of the hard work put in to making this happen.

Second I take no responsibility for any damage done to your device.

    This works to root 2.2.2

    1.) Download Dolphin Browser HD
2.) Download Gingerbreak 1.2 using dolphin.
    Download

    3.) Download Astro file manager.link
4.) You must have usb debugging enabled as well as unknown sources.
    5.) Install and run gingerbreak
    .
    Your rooted.

    Now on to recovery install.
    Droid X2 Bootstrap Recovery
    1.) Download the apk
    Download

    2.) Unrar using file expert
    3.) Install the apk.
4.) Follow the steps in the apk

    Your bootstrapped!

Get updated to 2.3.3 pre rooted
    1.) Download the zip
    Download

    2.) Enter bootstrap recovery
3.) Select install zip from SD Card
4.) Navigate to and install the zip

    No wipes needed.

Nothing in this tutorial requires a computer, or the stock recovery (volume buttons and power).

    computer method

honestly....although this is a great write up.....2 things I have to say

    A) there are already write up's
    B) you should just link to this now as it is a one click that doesn't require any sbf'ing if you are already on GB.

    Pete's DROID 3 Page

yes it says D3 but I can confirm this works on the X2.
I have done a lot of write up's....here's a link to some. If you would like help with your phone simply ask, PM me, or drop me an email and I will assist where I can.
List of phones I can help with: Droid, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, Droid X, Droid X2, Droid 3, Droid Bionic.
If you don't get response here try me on DroidForums, XDA, or Rootzwiki under the same name

Yes there are write ups. But none easy to find here. All are elsewhere.
The droid 3 method is for those with a pc that works. The above methods don't require one or an sbf its not for those already on 2.3.3.

Why Devs and "hackers" have a hard on for RAR is beyond me. It is a little better than a ZIP file but in this day in age who cares about a <1k file difference.

    Okay I have a question. I've done all the steps listed above up to installing the GB update, but when I get into Recovery mode, I only have the following choices to choose from;

    1. reboot system now
    2. apply sdcard:update.zip
    3. wipe data/factory reset
    4. wipe cache partition

I don't have the choice as written above to "Install zip from as"

So, in order to install the update to 2.3.3 pre rooted, what do I need to do?

If I install the named zip file "P3Droid-DX2-Patched_GB_update.zip" onto the root of my SD card, I get this error in Recovery saying "E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)

If I rename the zip file to "update.zip" and install it onto the root of my SD card, I get this error in Recovery saying "E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted.

so you are on 2.2 right....just take the OTA for GB then use the one click method that I linked to.
