Ics is short for the operating system. Ice cream sandwich
Jb short for jelly bean
Gb short for gingerbread and so on

don't have to be rooted to use apex but in order to run Ics on the dx then yes you need to be rooted.

Holo is a good one also. It was added to the vxl rom. Here it is but I don't use it so its not set up.

You sure can, I usually switch between a good stable one I like, and one I just discovered.

Yup. Like pop said. I use home manager (free In Play store) to bounce between launchers. It gives you the option to kill the ones you don't use. Keeps them from running in back ground. At one time I had 5 different launchers installed.

Im using Zeam launcher & its working pretty good for me. Not too much customization but its simple, clean & fast.
