Ok... new problem: I try to "adb push bootstrap-1.0.0.5-droid2.apk /system/app/" and it says "failed to copy adb push bootstrap-1.0.0.5-droid2.apk /system/app/ to system/app//boostrap-1.0.0.5-droid2.apk' : Read-only file system"

    Any ideas?

Installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper using Root Browser. When I press "Boostrap Recovery" in it, I get "Failure Error running exec(). Command: [su, -c./data/data/com.koushikdutta.droid2.bootstrap/files/surunner.sh] Working Directory: null Environment: Null"

I've installed ROM Manager from the Play Store. What step am I missing?

I think the problem is that I haven't finished rooting. That goes back to my previous issue which I thought I had solved by going to the Bootstrapper:

This is the problem I am currently having: I've been following the directions on Motorola Droid 2: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki

I've got the Android SDK up and running and can get all the way to step 7 under "Gaining Root Access" without problem (took a few tries but I got there).

Thing is when I do the "adb shell" command I get "error: device not found." Typing in adb devices comes up with an empty list. Any ideas? I can get the DX relisted under ADB by restarting it, but then I have to start the whole adb push rageagainstthecage thing again.

Also, I notice that when I plug in my DX the first autorun that I get is it being read as a CD drive, then I get a second autorun that pops up showing it as a storage device. Don't know if that's normal.

    Many thanks for the help!

For the device not found, be sure you enabled us debugging in the settings (developer section).

For system being read-only, run "adb remount" to make it read/write.
For the whole storage and cd thing, pull down your notification bar, tap the usb settings, and change it to charge only.

I didn't read over the last couple pages, so forgive me if I'm repeating things you already tried.

The fastest way to learn is to break something. The learning comes with fixing it again.

You can get to all of our available ROMs by heading
over to our ChameleonOS Downloads page.
Also make sure to flash the latest 4.2.2 gapps

And the winner is: This post. I went and got the ZergRush method and it worked like a charm.

Okay, so now I'm rooted (Superuser) and I've flashed ClockworkMod Recovery (Droid X 2nd-init version) and I guess I'm ready to go.

So now I can download a Rom and flash it in Clockwork mod? Do I have to use Bootstrap each time to reboot the phone into recovery to get the rom to run?

Am I limited in what ROMs I can run because I had the .621 update on my phone and then reverted back to Milestone X .604?

    Thanks everyone for your help!

have you verified CWM is installed by rebooting into the recovery? Once you are in recovery the first thing you should do is make a backup! Always do this before flashing anything in clockwork as there is a chance it will mess you up and you'll lose everything.

Use bootstrap for now but once you flash a rom you should use the power menu to get to recovery. I don't even install bootstrap after flashing a rom.

Anything 2nd-init the standard versions should work fine (anything cyanogen-mod (CM), miui, AOKP is 2nd-init). blur based roms (liberty, vortex) you have to use special versions.

And don't forget to make backups in CWM.
