Unhappy Mynet.apk Is Missing but "3G Mobile Hotspot" Still in App List

I want to remove the "3G Mobile Hotspot" system app from my rooted droid x, 2.3.4/.621, but for some reason I've been unable to locate Mynet.apk. The app wasn't showing up in Gemini App Manager, which is how I froze all the other unwanted system apps, so I tried to do it manually using the root browser in ROM Toolkit Lite to find the file and rename it to a .bak extension, however the file Mynet.apk is not present in either system/app or data/app and the root browser's search function never displays any results. It just says "searching" forever. I've rebooted several times with no change and I can't figure out what's going on. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

    thanks!
    Kris

it is not missing. It is built into the settings.apk, which you cannot remove/freeze, etc. If you really want to remove bloat and improve performance why not flash a rom?

I probably will at some point but I just got into messing with my phone like this and there are a lot of things I'll need to research before flashing a complete system rom. specifically, which rom would be best for me, how to backup and reload all my junk, and how to find a rom with apps that are all better than stock in my opinion. I've heard people complain about the non-stock camera programs so I want to approach this carefully and avoid reloading a stock rom like another guy did.

Handcent seems to be working great altho I do prefer the stock app. If I could get the text messenger button on the main home screen to open handcent I'd probably just use that but I think your idea is better so I'll probably start trying to learn about roms. Can you suggest any resources for that?

    thanks!

doh! In the middle of responding to your reply I got confused and started talking about a different issue. I'm so stressed and scatterbrained right now.

so, back to the original issue; if I understand correctly there is no way to remove the 3G Mobile Hotspot from the apps list in the stock rom, right?

This is correct. You cannot remove the mobile app. Some launchers can "hide" apps so you can't see the icon, but honestly a rom is probably your best bet and isn't a big deal. If you go with a rom like liberty or vortex you retain a good bit of stock feel (since you specifically mentioned the camera) but lose all the bloat. Miui is also a great rom.

The "hard" part is rooting. Installing roms is easy. the only other thing you'll need from what you have is a backup program for your apps and if you are interested one for your texts, call logs, etc. My backup pro will do all these. People also like titanium backup but it only does apps. Rom Toolbox pro will also do apps. All are highly rated.

thanks for the good info guys!

what do you think about CM7? I really like the idea of switching themes easily and it appears to be the most polished rom.
