    Broken root 2.3.3

I successfully rooted my DroidX when it was 2.2, but I did an update to 2.3.3 and now my root is somehow screwed up. All the rooting tools and re-rooting tools say I am still rooted, but none of my apps that require root are never granted root access.

For example, Superuser -- when I try to update my su binary I get the following:

    Code:
    Downloading manifest... okay!
    Parsing manifest... okay!
    Latest version = 3.0.3.2
    Checking installed version = legacy
    Fixing database... okay!
    Checking busybox... okay!
    Checking current install path... /system/bin/su
    Downloading new binary... okay!
    Checking md5sum... okay!
    Gaining root access... fail!
SU Update Fixer doesn't work either because it can't get root access and Droid X Bootstrapper also requires root access and can't get it so I can't update the su binary that way either.

Further, I get the following when trying to patch the zips from Superuser via the Power & Home then Vol+ & Vol- recovery mode when restarting my phone:

    Code:
    Finding update package ...
    Opening update package ...
    Verifiyng update package ...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
    E: signature verification failed
    Installation aborted
Anyone have any suggestions? Wiping the data to restore to factory default does not work. The problem still persists. If I can get my phone to true factory default where its not rooted anymore I can fix it.
