Music isn't accessible from Music player or Google Music

Hi all,

I'm pretty much ignorant to a lot of the serious tech stuff, so please bear with me! I'll try not to embarrass myself too much
I know this is probably a really simple issue, but I can't get my music files to appear in my stock music player OR my google music app. I recently upgraded from a rooted froyo (no rom, just z4rooted it) to gingerbread with an Apex rom (I think?) thanks to a more droid-adept friend. Regardless, this issue has been happening both before AND after I upgraded. It wasn't always this way, it just started happening at some point.

I have my music in a "Music" folder that I drag things into when I plug my X in. I also tried making a separate "My Music" folder, as well as just dropping the album (and some single song) files onto the SD card without another folder. No luck.

I can see the files in via OI manager or Astro File Manager, and I tried using sdrescan, but that didn't help anything.

This is pretty frustrating, and any help would be appreciated!
