[How to] Keeping your custom ringtone while connected USB
My phone stays connected to my computer a LOT and if I had a custom ringtone it would not ring since the SDcard is attached to the computer and the phone can't read the file when it rings.
If this is not the best way to do this I am all ears.
- You will need root
- You will need an audio converter program that can make .OGG files. (I used Audicity on my Mac)
- A program like 'Root Explorer' will make it easier
- Copy your "favorite" ringtone to your computer
- Convert it to an .OGG
- Copy it back to the phone
- Move the new ringtone to /system/media/audio/ringtones
- Reboot your phone
- Choose your new "system" ringtone (Settings -> Sound -> Ringtone-> Android System)

Now it does.
When I was connected before this modification, if I had a custom one picked with Zedge or Ringdroid, it would not ring.

When you are connected via mass storage mode or any mode where your PC is reading your SD card, custom notification sounds (saved on SD card) cannot be accessed by your phone since your computer is using the SD card. This is a workaround to store custom ringtones on the phone's internal memory.
My mp3 ringtones i made with Ringdroid wouldn't work when i was connected to USB, however my phone would ring, just a generic ring. I think you can get that part to work by setting your default ringtone to one of the verizon ones (not silence) before setting a custom one. When it can't find your custom one, it goes back to the last stock one you used. At least my phone does.
