ON / Off button not working on Droid X

Hi all,
This is my first time on this forum.
I have a 18 month old Droid X.
The on / off button no longer works and the only way to turn it off is to pull the battery.
Is there a way to put a short cut button on the screen to turn on or off?
Is there any other way to turn off?

I still have 2 months before I can replace and have no warrenty.

If you are rooted, there are a few apps and widgets in the play store that will. Power Toggles, Elixir, and shutdown are 3 that I know of. I believe you need root for that function, no matter what the app.

You can also remap other HW keys like the search key with root. I agree with HD though I believe root will be required to do what you want.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
The phone is always on.
If I need to turn it off, I pull the battery out.
Pain in the butt kind of thing.
Any suggestions how to root my Droid X for a novice like me?
