Black lines on screen turned to blotches

I didn't drop it or anything, but for some reason three little black lines (Two longer lines with one tiny one in between then) appeared in the bottom left of my screen. I mean, literally did nothing. Send a text, looked at the tv - phone when idle. When I brought it back to life later, the lines were there. After I threatened it - I ended up up pressing hard on it to see if it would disrupt it. Turns out - it removed a portion of the line. After pressing down on the rest - it turned from lines now to smaller blotches. Whats the deal? Is there something gunked up under my screen?

I have to give it to Verizon, their tech support is /amazing/. They overnighted me a new phone and kept apologizing for the problem.

I had a similar thing happen. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed a line about a cm wide right where the border of email goes. Annoying, but I dealt with it. The next thing I knew it grew, then another line below, and then another, then some would recede....like a weird worm. Then all of a sudden yesterday when I opened a message to read it, the lines sort of became a spot that is translucent on the outer portion and solid in the middle and the lines that once went across width wise are almost gone, but sketchy like they have been "erased". Verizon is NOT any help and insinuated I pushed to hard on the screen?? Or I dropped it. The phone is in excellent shape and isn't physically damaged. They also claim this doesn't happen and not a manufacturer defect. I wonder how often this is happening and if it has to do with usage....it did seem to "grow" when I spent more lenghty time on it and actually receded a lot when I wasn't using it.
