Phone won't boot past the boot animation

I had just rooted my phone again using z4root and ran the backup program Koush's Droid X Bootstrapper

Now when I reboot the phone it gets to the boot animation with the red droid eye but it will freeze for a second and then restart again from the "Droid" screen right after the motorola logo.

I've tried doing a factory reset to no avail. Is there anything else I can try or am I out of luck?

Yes, and when I hit the reboot now button the phone shows the Motorola screen and then repeats the boot animation over and over again.

I would try it again, or you could try to get to bootstrap from powered off. If that doesn't work you can sbf

Using your first suggestion I've been able to get to a screen that reads:

Bootloader
30.04

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

Any other suggestions?

I not sure what happened but it looks like you may need to sbf flash the phone. Have you tried all the methods from Abe's link about getting to bootstrap from powered off? All it gets you is that bootloader screen?

Yes, I've tried all the methods from Abe's link about getting to bootstrap from powered off. The first one is the only one that seemed to do anything and the result is as I mentioned above- getting to the bootloader screen. Do you know of any pages that explain how to sbf to a novice? If not I'll figure it out eventually. Thank you for all the helpful replies.
