Tried again held down power and vol down all the way to the lockscreen..i believe I am missing something
I tried the proceedure, and it worked....sweet. Now though, more often than not, when I turn on the phone after I've shut it off.....which isn't often, it boots up into recovery. This happened before trying this power off proceedure as well though.

I flashed boot strap clicked success
Opened rom manager clicked flash clock work, droid x..clicked ok on the success window.
powered down/pulled bat (tried both)..pressed volume down and power held both.
Always boots straight to gummy jar.
should I be waiting for the moto logo before pressing buttons?

Checked one time to make sure it wasn't going to boot into recovery anyway like it does sometimes...didn't press anything, and it booted normally.
Pulled battery, pressed the volume down/power button, and it went to recovery!
