Start from powered off state and then...

Stock recovery - Hold power button and home key. At the triangle with an exclamation point, press BOTH volume keys. Navigate with the volume buttons and select with the power button.

CWMR - Hold power button and volume down. Release power button at M logo, continue to hold volume down until you are in CWMR. Navigate with the volume buttons and select with camera button.

I am currently running stock from the 2 part flash of GB with D2 Bootstrap used to flash recovery.
Thank you for the tip the Power + Volume technique worked perfectly!

This gets me into clockwork everytime on froyo and now on my gb.
I guess it only works sometimes!

That is normal for Clockwork to come up first after charging your phone. It's designed that way so in the event you had to do a battery pull to recover from a bum ROM install or a bootloop you can then restore a nandroid backup without having to do a complete wipe &/or SBF. You actually should NOT let your battery die like that every day. There was an article regarding this and the short story is that unlike NiCads, these batteries don't have charge memory. You should only drain it all the way down about once every other month.

Have you pressed down at the blue light? Then recovery>latest recovery?

when I rooted my X it never went into recovery. Its seems to be rooted, because su and bootstrap are working, but I am not able to go into recovery mode. I'm trying to flash a ROM and it is just not working for me.

I have messing with this all day and keep in mind I am still new to this.
