Can a magnet affect the DX?

I was walking around at a festival this weekend and my cargo shorts have magnets for the pocket closures. Every now and then, I would feel the phone vibrate as if I had hit the unlock. I'd pull out the phone and the screen would be on, or it would have some app started. Can magnets have that kind of effect on the phone? I didn't want to purposely test that by putting a magnet against my phone. Thanks.

If a magnet comes in contact with the back, yes it can turn the screen on and put it into dock mode...
