Froyo update royally messed up root
Hello all,
I've got an issue with my Droid X after running the Froyo OTA update. I still have the SU icon in my apps folder, and running the EasyRoot app says that I am rooted. EasyRoot is unable to "unroot" me though and Root Explorer cannot gain root access.
Also, the Wireless Tether app give an error saying "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"
When I type "su" into my terminal emulator is says "Access is Denied" so I'm pretty sure I'm not actually rooted. Could anyone give me advice to figure out if I am truly rooted or not and if not, how to regain root? I was thinking of doing the Droid 2 method but I wanted some opinions before I try that so I don't break anything.
Thanks!

You're not rooted. Being all the executables are there you use need to chmod them to the right permission.
See a 2.2 rooting thread for command or just use the 2.2 method. It will just overwrite the su and busybox that is there now.

Just so I'm sure on this, you're saying that I should root via the Droid 2 method?
-
Yes you won't "mess up" anything.

Yes, agree with DebianDog, use droid 2 root method. The script that is ran will get you into a root shell which will allow you to chmod the permissions on those apps. Of course this method will just overwrite those apps too.

So i'll have to manually give the programs SU permissions? They won't prompt it like in 2.1 where I could just click Allow/Deny?
Sorry, it's just been a while since I've used the terminal on this phone...

no there is no "one click" from phone method available.

I just posted a 1 click method (using a PC) under this thread. Check it out!

I don't see it, or am I missing something?
Also, I wasn't referring to a one-click root method, I was asking if there is no longer a way for apps to request SU permission.

No, no. After you root everthing willl work JUST LIKE 2.1
