On leaked 2.2: how to backup & ready for official 2.2?

I'm still kinda new to a lot of this more advanced stuff. I did successfully update to the leaked 2.2 and have loved it. However, there are some bugs, so I want to get the official update. I did not have root before the 2.2 leak, and therefore don't now. I'm hoping some of you can guide me in:
    1. Backing up my apps/data in a way that will be restore-able on official update
    2. Returning my phone to 2.1 stock, so I'll be elligible for the update when it arrives (in a few hours?)

    Thanks.

How to: Return DROID X Back to Android 2.1 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

i followed these and did it in 5 minutes, as for backing up apps, transfer most that you can to sd card, then go back to 2.1, download and install 2.2 and restore apps from sd card

Okay great. Much more detailed than the rootzwiki instructions. Makes me feel safer about doing it.

Sounds like a decent way to backup/restore apps. I'll give it a try.

Oh, one more thing. Were you using 64bit Windows? Or 32? I've heard some people are not having it work on 64bit and wondering if I need to try on another computer since mine is 64.

I used windows xp 32bit at work for it.

The problem why it doesnt work is that people dont apply the patch

I got stuck on it failing untill I reread the stepes and applied the patch.
