    Cannot root my Droid X

Ive tried the magic md5 method with both thumb drive and cd boot from laptop and every time my laptop freezes on reboot with a black screen and a flashing cursor. I would really appreciate any suggestions. I downloaded the md5, unzipped into documents (burnt and downloaded to thumb drive " and then attempted to reboot my laptop through cd and usb and its not working. Im trying it on a compaq presario cq60. Thanks guys, ive gotta get this figured out quick, wifes getting impatient with my time on the computer!

Did you check the md5 of the download to make sure it's good?

Also, try a disk. Are you sure you're burning a bootable iso and not just a file?

Unfortunately im not certain how to check if the download is good or not. I found the link off this forum, it directed me to media fire where i downloaded it into winzip, then i unzipped the .iso file into my documents folder. Chances are it sounds like i may not have downloaded and burnt it properly. Thanks for your help and i look forward to your reply!

The MD5 for a file is specific to each file and is almost impossible to duplicate except for with the same file... You will want to make sure the MD5 sum posted for that file matches what you get back. That will tell you if it was downloaded correctly or not.

I use this. WinMD5 Free - Windows MD5 Utility Freeware download it, click the browse option and navigate to the file, double click it to open. (if it was zipped when you downloaded it, leave it zipped to generate the sum) It will give you the md5 sum back... You then copy and paste the one provided in the post and click verify.

Do that with the file first, before worrying about if its burned correctly.

The files and the md5 sums can be found here [How To] Root 4.5.621 with magic md5 (does not require Milestone SBF)

    T
here are also instructions on how to burn to a disk in that thread under "instructions for windows."

If anything is unclear, please just ask.
