Looks like installing a custom launcher from the play store or doing an SBF will be your two remaining options.

If you want to go the launcher route, ADW is a great choice.

the launcher works. Thanks so much for the help. What is a SBF and how is it done? Would that get me the original launcher back?

SBF returns your phone to a fresh out of the box state by totally wiping everything on it and replacing it with the stock image. It should fix the launcher issue; really it will fix pretty much any issue that isn't hardware related. Follow this link for a super easy method.

Which sbf did you use? 605? Or 621?
If you were on the last ota for your phone you have to use the 621 sbf.

Ok, that would be the Froyo SBF.
Here's a link that has all the SBFs. Be sure you use the 621 one. I'm assuming you were on the latest OTA. Right?
[Guide] Flashing Droid X SBF - Droid X - RootzWiki've never fooled with 621, I stayed at 605. But I think you need to SBF through RSD lite. Instuctions are all in the link.
