Can't play videos or view photos on my laptop downloaded from Droid X

I have downloaded my photos and videos from my phone to my Dell laptop. Some of the photos and videos play just fine. About half do not. I get an error message saying "Photo Gallery cannot open this photo or video. The file may be unsupported, damaged, or corrupted." I get a similar message when I used Media Player. I have tried to download from a SIM card reader. I took my laptop to a Verizon store and they could not figure out the issue. All of the photos appear and all of the videos play on the phone itself. However, I want to back them up as I have recently gotten the Samsung Galaxy SIII. If I can't figure this out, I will have to keep the Droid X forever. These are photos and videos of my daughter. I am at my witts end. Can anyone help?

What os are you running on your laptop? My XP reads it fine with the stock picture viewer. I have used USB and removed the card, both work, just wondering if its different for your os.

Check for Media Player updates? Java? Perhaps even Adobe? Or, like CnB said, maybe even updates to whatever OS you have on the laptop.

Or, save to Dropbox on your phone & they'll automatically copy to the laptop. How you getting 'em to the laptop? Perhaps the cord u use to transfer data isn't working. Try another one to see.

Also try VLC Media Player. It will play videos other players won't.
