    Droid X Unique Issue

I am new to this forum. I have read many posts with similar issues, but none exactly like mine. My Droid X worked fine this morning. When I went to check my email, the screen was black and phone was unresponsive. I removed and reinserted the battery and powered up the phone. After the M logo the screen went to the battery icon. It began at 0% (it had a full charge 45 minutes earlier), went to 5%, 20% and stopped at 60%. I held the power button on the top of the phone and the M logo came on and the phone began to boot. All looked fine when the screen went black and a few seconds later the battery icon appeared again and went through the same process, 0, 5, 20 and 60. No matter how long it is charged, it never goes past 60% and the phone will not boot past a certain point. The man at the local Verizon Store said that my battery is shot. The Verizon Tech does not think so and wanted to do a factory reset. I talked him into sending me a battery first. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

Yeah wait for a new battery first. I noticed if my battery went dead it wouldn't boot up unless it was at least charged up to 20%. Its possibly your battery just died. Or ya just need to let it charge for a while before turning it on. Its always good to have a new battery anyway!

Thanks Maybish, but the battery does not charge past 60%. I am tempted to do a factory reset and struggling not to in fear of loosing my saved text messages. The Verizon store guy told me the battery was over charged but I'm not buying. If anyone else has thoughts I'd liKe to hear them. Thanks.

First thing first is you will have to be able to turn your phone on, but if you get that far there are ways to save your texts. You can download an app like SMS backup+ and back them up and then try a reset if needed. Or if you want to root you can use titanium Backup to do the same thing, along with back up your apps before doing a reset.

Let's just hope it is your battery.

Thanks for the input. I'll wait for the battery and see what happens. I'll update this post as the solution progresses. Thanks again.

    All,

My son's droid X is doing the exact same thing and i don't believe it's a battery issue as I have put 3 different ones in - Seido and Moto ones. As stated it would reboot with the logo and then the red droid animation - spin then hang and go to black. The only way to do anything for me was to pull the battery. I tried wiping the cache with no luck and then went to factory reset, which was just bizarre. In the middle of the google account loading screen the phone rebooted. This time I bypassed the account input. The phone would never take me to the home screen. It asked me if I wanted to add any more accounts I said no. Then it wanted me to add my You Tube account info. I finally pulled the battery and it's charging again (80%). My next step is to use RSD LIte and get into it that way. His phone is in better shape than mine so not sure what it's doing.

But I'll let you all know if I find any thing that works.

Just to let you all know.. I ended up reformatting the phone a second time and it was ok. I also swapped my battery from my Droid X which was a 100 percent charged and put his into my phone and it's charging ok. I can't tell you what the cause was but I was successful going back to stock.

Mine is a bit different. Without it being plugged in, either wall, usb or car charger, it will not even try to boot. After an attempted boot, when it reverts to the battery icon, if I remove the power cord, the screen goes black instantly. Battery should be here today, hopefully. I post an update. Thanks.
