    out of service dx

I have just upgraded my phone and now have a dx that is not activated to my verizon account.

First I'd like to get it back to the latest stock (I have z4root installed if I still want root). But I need direction to go into to get it back to stock. Also without being activated can I load apps ? I am planning on using it as an alarm clock, gps unit and possible stream music when wifi connected.

Is what I am thinking of possible ?

Yes, enable WiFi connectivity and proceed as usual. Google Maps Navigation might need a data connection, unless you pre-cache the maps. The newer versions allow you to do that. But turn-by-turn voice navigation might not work without a live data connection.

i have my dx rooted but not in service since ive upgraded to the new s3. it works pretty nice in wifi as far as email games and being able to post onto the forums.

what version was your dx on before? mine was on 605. be sure to check it before trying anything.

    hmmmm too late lol
    I sbf'd 605

I thought it would wipe the phone clean however all my apps are still there.
It is running a little smoother though.

Thinking mostly of using it as a GPS for my bike.

Certainly not worth trying to sell it.

Handy though in case my S3 breaks.

an sbf didn't touch the data partition.. so you still have apps... which is why a factory rest is *usually* needed after an sbf.. unless the device is in the stock rom

I did reboot... didn't do a factory reset though.

Is that the part I am missing ? the factory reset ?

Yes. The factory reset will return it to an "out of the box" state.
