    update failure

I am trying to update my dx

    System version: Verizon.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US

    Android version: 2.2.1

The update it is trying to download and install is

    4.5.605.en.US

Seems to download alright but after the reboot it says that it failed.

Now I had it rooted with Z4 but unrooted it before doing the update.

Is there something I am missing ?

While you were rooted... did... you modify any of the system files? Debloat?
If so that's why the update is failing

I did rename some .apk's to .bak however I renamed them back and then removed root via Z4 before attempting to update.

::EDIT:: Forgot to mention that after restoring the apk's, I went to google play and updated all the apps before removing root.

Not sure where to get a valid version of .605 and then not sure how to install that. Would it cause me to lose things like a phone reset ?

Yeah it would reset your phone like the day you got it but this time with the .605 update. If you don't want to erase everything don't do it.

SBF would be best bet, way easier. I've never liked the "unroot" option given by rooting tools. Even if you changed your extensions back its pretty likely you will continue to fail it regardless because the update . zip checks EVERY file in the system directory and if one fails the whole update does. You have two different options IMO:

SBF to .340, this should allow you to (hopefully) retain data, then the system would be fresh and you can go from there.

However, tbh I've always avoided OTA updates like the plague. There's much easier ways to do it and get more benefits. In your case as your on Froyo, I'd recommend re-rooting. Backup all your stuff with Titanium, Google servers, etc. Then just flash the 15p AIO, factory reset before flash, boot up, and restore apps/re-sync Google, and enjoy the win (flashing a .605 AIO pre-rooted with the .15p radio and updater blocked for none of that .621 monkey business.)

EDIT: Almost forgot. 15p AIO is in the link in my sig.
