Want to strip down my DX safely and use it ONLY as a media player

Can anyone help? I've searched but haven't found an answer that directly responds to similar inquiries such as mine. They usually get sidetracked. I understand that all I have to do is put it on airplane mode to prevent it from trying to connect to the 3g what else can I do to strip it down so that has longer battery life and would function faster.

Currently I'm rooted and have frozen some basic apps such as Madden NFL and Need for Speed Shift.

My goal is to have it function as primarily an mp3 player and nothing else.

You can always try freezing apps individually and see if doing so borks your dx, or affects the music playback. Nobody has made a master list of apps that can be frozen to achieve as pure a music player as possible. If you try this, please post a list of the things that can and especially cannot be frozen.

I tried that for my kid's Droid x that's being used as a media player and gaming device. I started freezing apps that had anything to do with phone or messaging functions. I should have done 1 at a time, I did multiple at a time and started getting force closes. Primarily on the play store.
