Rooting from iso cd-plug into computer in boot loader mode before running?

Hey, so I decided to try to root my phone for the first time.

I am following these instructions

Linux solution to your Windows/RSD lite problems

I am using the 1KDStarz_MX4.5.604.iso

I was just wondering because I did not specifically see an answer to my question. Am I supposed to plug in the phone before running the cd (in boot loader mode)? Or should I wait until i get to the first screen where it gives me 3 choices (1 of the choices being is your phone plugged in?)

Yeah you have to put it in bootloader.
I would sbf to get the phone rdy for a rom
