Allow Droid X to work with CDMA carrier other then Verizon

    Hi All ,

Q1 : Explain the way (procedure including the tools ) to allow the Motorola Droid X MB810 to work with another CDMA carrier(Outside US) other then Verizon ?
Q2 : Is there any way to back up/restore(whole back up including settings,os...etc) Motorola Droid X MB810 , so that i can restore my phone in case I am unable to let it work with another carrier other then Verizon ?

BTW purchased from US , With clear ESN.

What I understand you can't change the CDMA version in Droid X itself. And Droid X is an older Android with older technology. So it is best to upgrade to a modern Global version of Android.

The first sentence says that you can't change the CDMA version in Droid X itself. And you can't change Droid X cellular radio to GSM. You can only use Droid X cdma_shadow on Verizon. With Droid X the physical cellular radio is fixed for Verizon only. So no software will change that. Note: you can use its CDMA in few countries only as a international roaming services only. But you can't change the CDMA software to use on another carrier. Again this is due to the limitations of the Droid X CDMA chip.

There are newer devices that have both CDMA and GSM radio chips built within them. These devices are "Global" devices.

Droid X being an older technology (released June 2010, single core, OTA only to Gingerbread, small RAM, no front camera, etc.) with cellular radio that is designed for Verizon only, there is no reason to stay with Droid X. Instead upgrade to a modern Global version of Android.

Backing up you can with Droid X. But since this device is not going be used overseas for you why not keep it the way it is.

If you still want to backup your Droid X then you need to tell us: What you want to be backed up?

Why to GSM !! I have not mentioned "GSM" word at all, I have said "allow droid x to work with cdma carrier company (like sprint , cricket ....etc)other than Verizon".

I know that I might not be able to explain the question correctly due to my less knowlege in mobile and computer technologies terms. I do apologize to you jaguarxt .

Thanking you for your help and support

Most of Europe is on GSM. And where CDMA is in Europe, including Russia, are on different frequencies than Verizon is on. GSM is also used most widely in the world and in many cases just changing the sim card will allow a GSM device to be used with another carrier (sometimes unlocking the device is needed). But this is not the same with CDMA. So GSM devices become more global (world) like and more unlockable like than CDMA by default. CDMA devices can be made to be global (world) devices and unlockable. But the manufacturers have to do a lot more to CDMA devices to make them global (world) devices and unlockable.

Sprint and Cricket (Virgin) are on completely different CDMA frequencies than Verizon. Droid X will not work with these CDMA frequencies of due to the limitations of the CDMA radio chip inside of Droid X.

There are some modern PPC (Pocket Personal Computer) devices, including some Android devices, that have multiple cellular chips or a cellular chip that supports multiple frequencies and services that will allow to unlock them and use them on other carriers. These devices are sometimes considered as " Global " or "World" because you can use them with different carriers. Droid X is not one of them.

In order to make this happen with Droid X you will have to replace the cellular radio chip inside your Droid X device. Not something the average person can do.

If I am wrong then someone will let us know that here.

Basically Droid X was Verizon's baby back then. So there was no reason to have Droid X support other CDMA or GSM cellular service.

as long as you are not on .621 yes you can flash it to what ever cdma radio you want. but you have to sbf to froyo to do so. as for "backing up" to get back on verizon there is no need. you can sbf using rds lite with a verizon sbf file and it will flash your radio to verizon

Yes, you can install/flash any radio drivers, but it will be useless unless the cellular radio chip has that frequency and radio service that the radio drivers can be used for. Droid X cellular radio chip is only for the CDMA for Verizon.

Now there are Android devices now that you can do this. That is one of several reasons that I recommended a modern "Global" Android instead of this older device.

as long as you can get the prls from a cdma company. and the update mms zip you can flash to ANY cdma carrier. the only one you will have an issue with is sprint because they only activate phones with an esn on there network
