    Authentication error?

Have had my Dx since April 2011 & am quite satisfied with it (stock MB810 with GB 2.3.3). I've been receiving this for a few days.

    Gmail: Authentication error receiving

Anyone know why this is happening and have any thoughts on how to make it stop?

    Thanks in advance

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Verify you can still access your account with a PC, so you know it was not hijacked. Then wipe and re-setup your gmail account
settings > applications > manage applications > "all" tab > scroll to gmail > click on it, then click "clear data"

No problem accessing gmail from my PC. What will this clear? Just the crap on the Droid? Or will I lose emails that are in my gmail?

I thought about removing gmail & reinstalling it (I've removed aol a few times due to this same issue) but was concerned that no gmail would affect the operation of my DX.

    Thanks for your reply.

Harley I followed the steps to wipe data (only like 360KB) but, not sure I follow you on "re-setup your account". Does this mean go to gmail on my Dx and "Remove account" and then "Add account"? From here all the Settings & incoming/outgoing server info will automatically load/install? It all makes sense but I want to confirm I'm doing this right before doing making a mistake. Thanks again for your help & advice.

Automatic set up is not available for you email provider. Please manually set up email account. (I don't understand how/why gmail does not set up automatically?)

Now I see I received this: Connection error - The following error has prevented a successful connection: Unable to connect to smtp.gmail.com. So I removed gmail to add the account again.

I read through all 4 pages at this link (10/25/11) but cannot determine the correct settings. I seem to remember one of the ports being 993 or 995, but I made the dumb decision to remove gmail this morning without making notes of the existing ports.

Please advise what my next/best course of action is. Thank you

I have not set up gmail as a pop account, I use the other two methods.
I'd suggest the native gmail app, click on gmail in the app drawer and not email, and set up your account that way. If you want to use the email client, set it up as IMAP, not as POP

Log into gmail on your PC, go to settings and click IMAP setup at the top. You need to enable it here first (I believe you also need to do this for POP)
Directions are right there, but basically on the phone, create a new email account and put your google user and password. Use security for the advanced options, auto, I believe. And you don't need certificate checked

I had similar issues when I first got my Dx April 2011. Today I ended up removing & adding gmail 3-4 times & the last attempt loaded successfully. Tested sending AOL email to Dx and from DX to AOL & everything's good to go

    Thanks for your advice Harley

For anyone else searching for this set up, this is what I used 11/27/11

    Incoming server, port 993
    imap.gmail.com
    Outgoing server, port 465
    smtp.gmail.com
