adding another google gmail account

I tried searching and found nothing. sorry if this is repetitive.

I have my default google account gmail, but want to add an additional one. when adding it through the settings, accounts, add account etc...., it times out and says no reliable data connection. i have tried this with 3g and wifi. all other data usage works fine. what is the deal?

Not sure if you've solved this yet, but I encountered the same issue and found the thread...

After researching the issue, I found a solution in the android repository - Issue 8636 - android - Google sync: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" - Project Hosting on Google Code (look at reply 30)

In the workaround posted, all I did was try signing into the account I wanted to add through the YouTube app...sounds odd but it worked. For some reason I got an invalid password message through the YouTube app, but when I go back into My Accounts my second gmail was added and it can be synced up.

Wow, that is nuts, it worked for me too!!! I tried everything else offered in these forums but nothing seemed to work, I thought it was hopeless and I'd have to wait for Froyo. Victim, you're the man!

slowly but surely I'm getting this Droid configured to my needs... strange how the Youtube account sign in adds the additional gmail. didn't need it for adding my second gmail account, but did for the third one

I am having a similar, but slightly different issue.

I am unable to add a second gmail account, the process hangs right after putting in my password at the anti-spam security check, that thing where you type in the letters of a jumbled up word, every time I enter one in a new one pops up right away. It seems as if its not communicating with the server to verify whether the input was right.

Tried the UTube workaround and the same thing happened.
