Did you by any chance just recently install a new game called Bouncy Castle or something?
If so, it may have a bug in the permissions that interfering with your e-mail.

No. Just a getjar app called android calendar widget last night. On Google it mentions something about Java, but I'm not following solution.

Are you using gmail, k9 what are you using and are you on cyanogen 7.1 and are you using SSL encryption to with your IMAP/POP account?

Not affecting gmail. Only email from comcast. Wiped cache, dalvik, manage apps, all, email and deleted data there as well. Signed into account again and it went through. Not sure if all 3 were necessary, and I obviously can't tell which one solved issue. But it's all good. Thanks for your help.

The data wipe is probably what fixed it

Same thing happened to me out of the blue yesterday morning. I have read the threads but don't know how to clear out the stuff you're all talking about. Can someone give me the actual "path" (ie settings, apps etc) so I can fix this or clear this? Please! NOt that it matters but does anyone know how it happened? I don't ever download any weird stuff on my phone.

As Cory mentioned, it was probably just the data wipe that worked for me. Go into settings, applications, manage applications, all, and scroll down to your email app. Open it and delete data. You'll have to resign into your account afterwards.
