My droid X came unrooted after most recent update - HELP!
After I took the most recent update that my phone has recieved - my phone's app's that rely on rooting are not working. (the version it says im running on is 2.3.3 in my about phone section). I tried using wireless tethering and it says- unable to star tethering. is your device rooted?
I have z4root on my phone.
When I open the app - It gives me to options - Temp Root, Permanent Root, or Un-Root
I figure since unroot is an option , that my device should be rooted.
When I click on any of these - it sits there spinning forever, and either takes an hours with nothing
or the app closes and nothing is fixed...
Can someone pleaseeee help me?
Im not a super genius with my droid - but I feel like it isnt working like it suppose to.

Z4 doesn't work on gingerbread, check out the gingerbread root link below to root your phone

I'm on froyo z4 rooted. If I take the update that keeps popping up, it will unroot me then I can use the last option for the one click root on my phone? I have a mac do prefer a one click root on my phone like z4.
The z4 root for froyo was so simple. Afraid to update to gingerbread and not get root back

Yup, you will lose root, but you can use this one click method to regain. Unfortunately there is no on-phone method like z4root for gingerbread, but this will work for a mac, just follow the appropriate instructions in the thread linked

Do you know of a way to uninstall the update.. there
are several extra instructions for the droid x's that were previously rooted..
I;d rather go back to my other version where my z4root works

If you've already updated, the only way to downgrade is to SBF to it (wipes your phone and installs s fresh, stock, official build of whichever versions sbf you choose).

Actually I rooted my X with one click while on Gingy. I used an app I downloaded to my cpu, called Motorola One Click Root Tool. I'll post the link on here so you can download it to your cpu, not your X. All you do is download the app to your pc then download MotoHelper, which Motohelper updates your drivers for you. You have to download it, cuz if you don't have the correct drivers it won't work. Motohelper is free on Motorola's site, which it checks to ensure the correct drivers are on your cpu, and don't delete it off your cpu (learned that the hard way), cuz your X won't work properly when you try to do stuff with it on your cpu. I'll post that link as well. Then after the drivers are installed, make sure your the Moto one click is running on your cpu, then when it tells you to, plug your X in, and follow the on screen directions, and them you'll be rooted. You will have an app called Superuser on it. You have to have it in order to do stuff with your X that requires root. I'm going to post the links in a separate post after this one. Hope this helps. It's the only one I've found to work with Gingy. It works with all Moto phones from the DROID series, including the Bionic. It has a list of supported devices, but some DROID phones from Moto are not listed including the Bionic, but they have been known to work.
