    Insufficient storage available? Wtf?

When I try to download from the market, a message box pops up that says 'insufficient storage available', even though I have plenty of space left on my phones hard drive.. Why is this?

Can anybody offer some kind of explanation or help?

Clearing the cache may still help.

    Turn phone off
    Hold home+power
At exclamation point, push both volume buttons at the same time
    Scroll to wipe cache
    Select with camera button

Ill give it a try. But I just did that a month or two ago, so im not sure if that's it.. How long does it typically take after doing that, for your phone to show signs of needing it done again?

PS.. I can't remember where I saw this, but for some reason I remember a while back seeing something on my phone that made reference to 'available app storage'.. Is there possibly some kind of separate partition of the phones harddrive that gets dedicated to apps, and has a limited amount of storage compared to the overall disk space?

No way to know really. The reason it may fix it is if there's a bit of bad or corrupted data in there. Really no way to predict if/when it'll happen; do just wipe it when you start having issues

Bad SD card? Maybe the app trying to install wants to go to SD card by default and something might be wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with the SD card.. and I've tried downloading multiple different apps and still get the same message..

The odd thing is, the app I was trying to download/install from the market when I first got the message, was roughly 700kb.. However, after that, I was able to successfully download/install an app that was smaller (roughly 300kb), but then got the message again when I proceeded to try to download a 500kb app.. Which leads me to believe perhaps there is a limited amount of 'app storage' regardless of available hard disk space. Because it almost seems like I didn't have enough space available to download the original 700kb app, but I DID have enough to download the smaller 300kb app. But after installing that one, it left me with no available space left for the 500kb I tried afterwards.. Do you guys get what im saying?

So does anybody know what's going on, or if in fact there IS some kind of 'app storage' limit, regardless of the overall disk space available as a whole?

    Anybody?

I'd be inclined to agree with the bad data theory. I get that warning when I plug my phone in on mass storage mode, but it disappears after a second. I used to get that error, but after reflashing the rom, it fixed it. I would suggest unmounting/remounting the sd card under system settings, I've heard weird success stories of things like that working. One example of things acting weird is that my sd card fried a while back, so I tested it in my gf's g2x, and the bad card wouldn't even let her phone boot. You never know.....
