This, nice call leach. Sounds like you ticked hide status bar in ADW if you're using that.

Side note I've got to grab communities after you and snow mentioned it

No, I am not running any of those.
I recall viewing the status bar lastly, some time, before installation of "flashlight" app. This app was d-installed; still no status bar.

Well, that's a little odd then. Are you rooted? If you are, go to the market and download an app called "notification restart". If not, have you tried just rebooting your phone

If neither of those do the trick, you may need to wipe cache. To do this...
    1) Power down phone
    2) Hold power and the home hard key
    3) At the exclamation point hit the search key (or if on gingerbread, hit both volume keys at the same time)
    4) Select wipe cache, use the camera button to select
*** Make sure you choose wipe cache and NOT wipe data***

Also, I should have asked already, but what version of android are you on? Go to settings, about phone, and there will be a build number and an android version number. Could you tell us what both of those say?

Reboot w/cache clearance worked! Have stored status bar.
    Android 2.3.3; build 4.5.1_57DX5-35

Can you explain what "cache" is cleared? Should cache be cleared at a regular interval?
