When did this start? Have you downloaded anything recently?

They sound like airpush ads, which are usually from an app you've installed.

Download Airpush Detector from the market, and it will scan your apps and tell you which, if any, are giving you airpush ads...uninstall the app that's doing it and the ads should be gone...

Yep thanks. The Airpush Detector pointed at a free app named Fleya. Uninstalled, and the spam is gone. It's a shame, because my 1 year old son loved playing with that app on my phone. The airpush spam notifications (green plus in notification area) apparently got bundled with a free update to Fleya. Yuck.

If you son likes it, why remove the app? Just delete notification. Remove app when he gets bored with it.

Don't have to delete the apps!

Airpush allows you to globally opt-out of receiving their ads, so you can enjoy the apps and not see the notifications: http://www.airpush.com/optout

The app in this link you provided is getting some very bad reviews from people who have used it. Seems like the best option still is to just use airpush detector from the market and just uninstall the problem app.
