    Water Damage Troublshooting

My friend gave me a DX that she had dropped in coke. She took out the battery and let the little guy sit in rice for a few days, and then it seemed to boot up ok. When she gave it to me, it ran for about 20 minutes, got very hot, and then died.

I opened it up and cleaned out the sugar and gunk with 91% rubbing alcohol and q-tips, and then let it dry. Now, it will sometimes boot but soon turn off, and other times it will begin to charge from 0% or 10% but then die again.

I bought a new battery for it but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Does anyone have advice? Is there a particular part I could replace or have I done something to damage it aside from the coke fiasco?

Help is much appreciated, thank you!

dropping a phone into water is bad, but into coke is way worse. I'm surprised it even booted at all. i don't think there's anything you can do at this point, if even a tiny bit of the coke got into areas that you can't readily access (which really is most of the phone and it's internal components) there could be corrosive damage or some gummed up sticky residue. water would evaporate completely (well not really) whereas coke would leave all sorts of things. saltwater would be just as bad.

a grade school teacher showed us the corrosive powers of soda once, so again i think it's likely this dx has gone on to better places

But while it still boots and gasps for life, I can not simply write it off as a lost cause.
